A garage floor in this part of New York takes road salt, slush, hot tires, oil, and freeze-thaw. Paint and thin kits fail that cycle. A coating system that is ground, repaired, and topped with polyaspartic is built for it.
Epoxy Done Right is an owner-operated contractor based in the Capital Region. We spec garage floors for the weather we live in — not for a showroom in another climate.
Most residential garages we coat get the same stack: diamond-ground concrete, crack and spall repair, a bonded base coat, vinyl flake, and a polyaspartic topcoat. That is the floor we trust when March still has salt on the slab.

What this climate does to a garage slab
Salt rides in on tires and sits. Water freezes in hairline cracks and opens them. Hot tires can pull a thin film that never bonded. Older Albany, Troy, Rensselaer, and lake-effect garages were finished for utility, not for a resin coating.
If the last floor peeled, it is usually one of these:
- No diamond grind — the coating sat on dust or hard-troweled laitance
- Cracks and spalls left open
- Moisture in the slab
- A kit rolled in a cold garage and asked to take traffic too soon
- No UV-stable topcoat in a sun-exposed bay
We fix those before color goes down. See Concrete Repair & Prep.
